Born in Hamilton,
Ontario, Canada, John grew up amongst the quiet back-country lakes and
wide assortment of beautiful wildlife. As John grew up he moved throughout
Southern and Northwestern Ontario, from Sault Ste. Marie, to Sudbury, to
Elliot Lake. His younger years saw him through an education in the Catholic
school system and was taught to speak both French and English. Leaving
home at 14, over the next few years he worked in sawmills, for the railroad,
and even in a suitcase factory.
John enlisted in the Canadian Armed forces from 1965-1967 as a Recon Crewman
in the 8th Canadian Hussars (same designation as Cavalry Crewman in the
U.S. Army). John enlisted in the U.S. Armed Forces from 1968-1971. His
tour in Vietnam was 1969 -70 where he served as an 11 Bravo, Light
Weapons Infantryman. (grunt) He was one of the many men to contribute
his skills during the conflict in Vietnam on the front lines. Following
his tour in the Army, John attended college in
Rochester, New York where he received a degree in Criminal Justice. In
1980 John re-enlisted and spent four years posted Stateside on various
Army bases, followed by two years in Germany, on the border before the
wall came down.
Since leaving the Army John has led an interesting life, working as an
armored car driver, a horse farrier, and a long haul truck driver. John
now lives and shares his home of 80 acres in Apache County, Arizona, with
his dogs and horses.
John has learned to open his consciousness, giving
life to his characters' voices and finding them living great adventures.
His gift portrays areas that go beyond Military Fiction.
